The upcoming high-end version of the Apple Watch Series 8 will feature the first redesign of the device in years and a new titanium casing, but it won’t feature the long-rumored square look, according to Apple. BloombergMark Gorman.

In the latest issue of his “Power On” newsletter, Gorman said this year’s high-end Apple Watch model will be “a little bit bigger” than current Apple Watch models, so much so that it “may appeal to only a subset of customers.” The device is expected to have a seven percent larger screen.

Gorman reiterated rumors that the high-end Apple Watch will feature its first new design since the launch of the Apple Watch Series 4 in 2018. It appears that it won’t be round, and contrary to reports of a square-shaped design, “there are rumors of those flat sides.” Instead, Gorman described the new design as an “evolution of the existing rectangular shape.”

He added that it would have a casing made of “a more durable combination of titanium to make it even more solid”. The device is also expected to feature a longer battery life that can last for several days on a single charge via the new Low Power mode, according to Gorman.

The only new health feature expected in the ‌Apple Watch Series 8‌ is still a body temperature sensor, with blood pressure monitoring not expected to arrive until 2025, and blood glucose monitoring not ready until “closer to the end of a decade, ten years.”

Gorman added that “the upcoming Apple Watch is shaping up to be one of the company’s most exciting products this year.”
